Surface, Stitch & Story is a playful two day workshop exploring fabric surfaces with colour, printmaking, markmaking and stitch.
Bring an object of inspiration with you - be it a found thing or something more personal. We will meet and open the session by introducing ourselves and our object of inspiration; hearing each others stories.
On day one we will begin to work with a range of fabrics including linen, calico and lightweight cotton to create a collection of small studies using layers of colour in conjunction with printmaking and mark making techniques. Your object of inspiration may be a focus, a jumping off point or there in a more supporting role.
On the Sunday we will review our creations and spend some time as a group laying out our studies to see how or if there are pieces we would like to work on through the session. We will look at working into pieces with stitch, collage and layering; adding more details if desired.
By the end of the weekend you will have a collection of small textile studies and the beginnings of some larger textile pieces to use as inspiration for deeper creative exploration or to evolve into a completed piece of work later on.

A selection of pre washed fabrics to include natural calico, linen and voile
A selection of neutral threads for hand and machine stitching
Cartridge and newsprint paper for doodling
Paint, ink and tools for printing and mark making

What should you bring:
An inspirational image or object - either found or of personal importance
Any fabrics or thread you wish to use
Any papers you’d like to incorporate
Any paints, inks, mark making tools you wish to use
Sharp scissors
Packed lunch (there is a fridge in the studio)
I have 2 electric and one hand crank sewing machine available. Class size is max 6 people so if you’re driving and you’d like to bring your own machine please do.
Please note: I need a minimum of 2 bookings on this workshop to make it viable to run. If travelling from outside of Norwich please wait to hear from me before booking any tickets for travel.
